No matter how much we look forward to a bit of winter cool chill as we swelter through summer’s sapping heat waves, when it eventually does arrive the truth is we’re over it the first time our umbrella gets blown inside out.

While we may want to just bunker down and wait for September, the truth is there are plenty of great things to do in Melbourne over winter. Here’s a few we reckon are worth getting off the couch for.

Dockland Winter Fireworks

Embrace you inner child and start your weekend off with a BANG by watching the spectacular fireworks display over the Docklands, put on by the City of Melbourne. Catch a tram down to the Docklands, take in the fireworks and then head into the city for dinner and drinks.
When: 1st July – 26th August

There is no better way to spend a cold, wet afternoon than to visit the National Gallery of Victoria before heading out for a spot of lunch on Southbank or in the city.

The Australian Ballet

The Australian Ballet is one of Australia’s great artistic company’s and with its northern hemisphere roots it only seems appropriate that a cold winter’s day is the best time to take in a performance from its extremely talented artists.
