Melbourne – The Major Events Capital of Australia

Each year Melbourne plays host to some of Australia’s biggest cultural, sporting and artistic events. These dynamic showcases draw visitors from all over the country and from around the world, giving the city a fantastic buzz.

Here are five of the best…

Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix

Each March, the streets around Albert Park – just ten minutes form the city – are transformed into one of the world’s best Formula 1 racetracks. This high-octane event draws annual crowds in excess of 300,000 who revel in the full-throttle drama that takes place over four energy-fuelled days of racing.

Melbourne Fashion Festival

The week-long festival celebrates fashion, beauty and business as well as Australia’s best established and up-and-coming designers. Spectacular runway shows and lavish events bring visitors from around the country and abroad to Australia’s fashion capital.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival

March is a great time to be in Melbourne. Along with the Grand Prix and Food and Wine Festival, the city comes to life with the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. On any given night over the three-week festival, comedy fans can choose between seeing an international star at a big theatre or see a young up-and-comer at an intimate little venue. Either way, hilarity ensues.
