Melbourne’s best fashion destinations
Melbourne is the fashion retail capital of Australia. From flourishing inner city shopping strips to large suburban shopping complexes, Melbourne contains an exciting mix of international designer brands, flagship stores, local fashion retailers and world class department stores.
Here we list some of Melbourne’s most iconic shopping destinations.
Melbourne’s CBD has evolved as the pre-eminent shopping area in Australia. There are the ever stylish stalwarts like department stores David Jones and Myer who have had their flagship premises on Bourke Street Mall for over 100 years. Then there is Melbourne’s historic arcades and bustling laneways, which house small boutiques.
Modern retail complexes such as the Emporium (pictured above) are bringing even more style to the city, while Melbourne’s well-heeled continue to make their way to the top-end of Collins Street to shop luxury European brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermes, Bulgari, and Prada.
Chapel St, South Yarra & Prahran
With its historic setting and innovative architecture, Chapel Street is an experience destination that has long contained an active, vibrant and culturally significant fashion scene. It may have changed a lot over the years but its entrepreneurial culture has always made it a breeding ground for some of Australia’s best young fashion designers, including the vastly successful Lisa Gorman whose eponymous label has two stores on the street.
Toorak Village, Toorak
Toorak Village on Toorak Road is one of Melbourne’s oldest and most traditional shopping destinations. The up-market strip is epitomised by the iconic men’s retailer Henry Bucks, which is over 125 years old. Henry Bucks sales the finest menswear, both classic and contemporary, sourced from the best manufacturers in the UK and Europe. For any truly fashionable man, a trip to Henry Bucks is an absolute must.
Chadstone Shopping Centre, Chadstone
